MONDAY DAY 1

Left Phoenix this morning turned north on the freeway heading to pick up Jan. The weather was great, bike running good, turned on the radio just in time to hear the Doobie Brothers "Rockin Down The Highway".

Grabbed Jan in Cordes Junction left Flagstaff for the four corners and the day just kept getting better. Once I got a few hundred miles behind me with blue skies, good roads, tunes, wind in your face, big v-twin rumbling, everything is right with the world.

Made it to Durango before calling it a day, shirt sleeves with snow on the side of the road. A few minutes in the hot tub to unwind with four deer feeding not 20yards from use just finished the day off.

Tomorrow we continue east on 160 hopefully over Wolf Creek Pass and on to Dodge City.

Woke up this morning with a headache. Stubbed my toe heading to the shower, I think it's broken. While getting dressed, the weatherman said it would be nearly 100 degrees today. Good thing I don't have to ride around on a motorcycle all day.

Left Phoenix heading east. I was quickly met with the familiar sight of bumpers and break lights, and the pleasant sound of commercials on the radio. I swear they wait for me to get in the car before taking a "short" 25 minute break to advertise crap I can't afford. Looking at all the other poor saps nodding off in their cars while trying to get to work, I realized that something just isn't right with the world.

Made it to Scottsdale only 15 minutes late today. Looks like I get to keep my job one more day. After two hours of surfing the web, I decided it was time to try and work. 38 seconds later I was back on the web searching for nothing of great importance. Somehow the clock hit five and it was back to the slowest race in town, the congested drive home.

As I came home to an empty house I was comforted knowing that somewhere out there, men of great class and character were off enjoying another great adventure. These men were probably kicking back in a hot tub somewhere talking about their great lifetime accomplishments.

Then reality snaps me back and I realize that tomorrow I will head east again, like I've done every damn day for the past 8 years and will probably do for the next 50.

Oh well, it's the journey not the destination, right? Have a great ride guys!
